Our founding attorney, Rosemary Dettling, has more than 30 years of legal experience, and she handles a variety of employment law concerns that may affect federal employees. One of the key areas that Federal Employee Legal Services Center can help federal employees address involves Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints related to discrimination or unfair treatment. We work with employees to fight against discrimination related to protected factors like race, national origin, age, sex, or religion, as well as unfair treatment based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

We also work with disabled employees to address discrimination. When these employees make requests for reasonable accommodations that will allow them to perform their duties, we can help them respond to unfair denials.

Another key area in which we provide legal support involves cases where federal employees may face disciplinary action. We can help defend against adverse employment actions, including terminations, demotions, suspensions, or other penalties. When an employee receives a notice that they may face discipline, we can help to prepare a written response to proposed disciplinary actions. We can also provide representation in appeals before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), working to demonstrate that discipline is unfair or unwarranted. Our goal is to protect our clients' careers, minimizing the disciplinary action that they may face.

Federal employees may also need to deal with whistleblower retaliation. While employees have the responsibility to report issues such as legal violations, misuse of government resources, mismanagement of funds, or fraud against the government, they may face reprisals for doing so. We work to ensure that the rights of whistleblowers will be protected while addressing illegal actions taken by employers. We can assist with investigations by the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) or appeals to the MSPB to address whistleblower retaliation.

In addition to providing representation when employment matters are handled through federal agencies and offices, we can also provide representation in federal court. We advise clients on when federal lawsuits may be necessary to protect their rights and interests, and we fight to achieve results that will fully address illegal actions that have harmed federal employees.

Excellent counsel.

I live in DC and was overwhelmed after losing my job. The FELSC team took my case even though it was a complex whistleblower case. They were very patient and professional. I could tell from the first comversation that I was in in very competent hands. My husband, who is also a fed employee, aIso used FELSC, and he was also pleased.
